Things To Do Whilst Staying At The Hafod Hotel

Visit Aberystwyth

Aberystwyth is approximately a 20 minute drive and the scenery along the way is beautiful. The town is lively and has a very friendly atmosphere, with some interesting small shops.

Pen Dinas Iron Age Hill Fort

The hill of Pen Dinas is a well-known landmark of the Ceredigion coast. Its summit is crowned by a fort built over 2,000 years ago to protect and control the landscape surrounding present-day Aberystwyth. You will see this as you drive towards Aberystwyth a large hill with a tall column at the top.

Aberystwyth Arts Centre

The award winning Aberystwyth Arts Centre is the largest and busiest arts centre in Wales, with a wide-ranging programme of events and activities across all art forms. Please ask at reception for a copy of what’s on at the moment at the Arts Centre.

Aberystwyth Castle

It is late 13th century, now ruined, near the sites of three earlier castles. It was captured by the Welsh in 1404 and then slighted in the Civil War.

The Cliff Railway

The Aberystwyth Electric Cliff Railway is the longest in Britain and the only one in Wales. It's 778 feet undulating track and tilted carriages are the unique work of Victorian engineer G. Croyden Marks. It opened in 1896 operating on the water balance system but since 1921 a powerful electric motor and 2 high tensile steel cables have hauled the carriages at a stately 4 miles an hour. This gives you time to enjoy the panoramic views as you climb to the summit station and marvel at the Victorians ingenuity.

Ceredigion Museum

The museum is described as having one of the most beautiful Museum interiors in Britain and housed in a restored three story Edwardian theatre. The museum displays objects of all ages from the county of Ceredigion (Cardiganshire). Most of the displays are of the Victorian period and later.

The National Library of Wales

One of the great libraries of the world. Since 1911 it has enjoyed the right to collect, free of charge, a copy of every printed work published in Britain and Ireland. In addition there is a huge collection of works about Wales and the other Celtic countries: books and pamphlets, magazines and newspapers, microforms, ephemera, and a wealth of electronic material. The Library is not only a library. There are thousands of manuscripts and archives, pictures and photographs, maps, sound recordings and moving images.
